The Valencian Institute of Business Competitiveness (IVACE) has granted us a subsidy of €59,332.25, with 60% European Union funding through the FEDER Operational Program of the Valencian Community, for the project titled “R&D OF PROTEASES FROM AGRICULTURAL WASTE TO REDUCE SCALES IN WOOL“, with file number IMIDCA/2024/57 submitted to the PIDCOP-CV program.
The objective of this project has been the development of a new textile finishing product, based on proteases from agricultural waste, and its application process on wool fibers in order to reduce/eliminate the scales characteristic of this type of fibers and to which this type of felting is associated. The innovative solution has been: the use of proteases obtained from agricultural waste for the elimination/reduction of wool scales, taking advantage of underutilized resources and reducing the environmental impact.
FRANCOTEX has carried out the research and development of the formulation of the new bio-finish, which was developed from enzymes (proteases) from agricultural waste. Meanwhile, SATINSA has been the company in charge of researching the previous preparation of the wool and the application of the new bio-finish.
Finally, the project has been successfully concluded, defining a new process and product within the textile sector, thereby improving the performance of the wool and reducing the environmental impact that the application of the finish on it may have.
